King’s Oak Academy celebrates Pride Day

King’s Oak Academy marked Pride Day by fostering Pride awareness throughout the entire school.

As one of the largest Pride celebrations outside of London and Manchester, Bristol Pride has grown into a significant annual event, and King’s Oak Academy was keen to join in the celebrations to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

The day aimed to not only celebrate Pride but also to promote values of tolerance, inclusivity, and mutual respect, core principles that align with British values and the academy’s commitment to its EDI agenda.

Staff members were assigned specific colours from the Pride flag to wear, symbolising unity and support. Meanwhile, students engaged in thought-provoking discussions during tutor sessions, exploring the history of Pride and the ongoing significance of the event in advocating for LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

Andy Marshall-Aherne, Assistant Principal, said: “The day was met with enthusiasm and appreciation across the academy, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

“It was a well-received initiative that reinforced our commitment to promoting inclusivity, empathy, and understanding within the school and wider community.”
