Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Starting primary school is an important time, and we want to ensure that your child is warmly welcomed, finds their learning exciting and joy-filled so that they become successful lifelong learners. Our open-plan space is carefully planned to provide opportunities for children to be creative, to solve problems and develop their own lines of enquiry through play.  All adults are skilful at supporting children’s social, communication and language skills and we put this at the heart of our interactions.

We have a large outdoor learning environment which the children are invited to explore during their free-flow discovery time. In addition, we also have a weekly session in our amazing Forest School. In Reception, children experience an appropriate balance of adult led and child led learning. We use Mastering Number to ensure that all children have a solid foundation in Mathematics. This is delivered through a daily session and linked activities throughout the week. Children also take part in a daily phonics session delivered using the Unlocking Letters and Sounds scheme so that by the end of the year they can read and write simple sentences. Throughout the week, there are also opportunities to learn and explore across the rest of the areas of learning including expressive arts and design, understanding the world and physical development.
