King’s Oak students explore engineering at Renishaw
A group of thirty Year 8 students from King’s Oak Academy participated in an engaging and educational Engineering Discovery Day at Renishaw’s headquarters in Wotton-Under-Edge.
This special event was organised in conjunction with National Science Week and International Women’s Day, aiming to inspire the next generation of engineers.
Throughout the day, students were introduced to the diverse field of engineering and explored the wide range of career opportunities within the sector.
They had the opportunity to hear from two graduate engineers, who shared their personal journeys and provided insights into the various pathways leading to a career in engineering.
A highlight of the day was the hands-on practical activity, where students constructed their own LED torches. This interactive experience allowed them to develop key skills in electronic engineering and problem-solving.
Laura Phillips, Associate Assistant Principal for STEM at King’s Oak Academy, commented: “It was particularly inspiring to observe the resilience demonstrated by students, as the practical task proved to be challenging.
“It is hoped that this experience has motivated and inspired them to consider pursuing careers in engineering in the future.”
