Cabot Learning Federation Big Bake at King’s Oak
A host of culinary talents were on display during the first heat of the annual Cabot Learning Federation Big Bake contest at King’s Oak Academy.
Taking part in this heat was King’s Oak Academy – including both Lower and Upper school students –John Cabot Academy, Wallscourt Farm Academy, Hanham Woods Academy and Post 16 students.
The technical challenge saw secondary students bring in homemade cakes to decorate with icing, food colouring and equipment provided by the organisers. Primary pupils, on the other hand, were provided with cupcakes and everything needed to showcase their decorating skills.
However, with heats continuing in other CLF cluster areas until mid–March, the exact details of the technical challenge remain a secret for now.
The enviable task of judging the competition fell to Andrea Lewis from The Feisty Feeder, and CLF Executive Principal Jon Jones.
And at the end of an afternoon during which students displayed their skills and learnt new ones, Wallscourt Farm Academy claimed victory in the primary category, while John Cabot Academy students were the proud winners in the secondary school category. All participants were recognised for their efforts with the presentation of a symbolic wooden spoon.
Senior Administrator Rhian Skinner, who helped organise the event, said: “To everyone involved, especially those who supported the students, thank you so much for your help and involvement. The event could not have been a success without us all pulling together, and it was a great team effort.”
CLF judges now eagerly await the next round of heats ahead of the crowning of the ultimate primary and secondary Big Bake champions on March 20.
