Welcome to Middle School
On behalf of all the Middle School Team, welcome to The Middle School at King’s Oak Academy!
We recognise the importance of providing your child with a seamless journey as they move from Primary to Secondary Education. Whether your children are continuing their learning journey through King’s Oak with us, or are joining us from another primary school, our unique structure at KOA will allow your children to feel safe, supported and build a sense of self and place in the world throughout their educational journey. Your child’s time in Middle School will support them in accessing opportunities and making their own choices now and into the future. We are very fortunate as we are currently having our middle-school site developed to become a space where our children are held close, nurtured and empowered to grow at their own pace; this, along with our amazing and dedicated teaching and pastoral staff support our children to flourish and become confident learners who celebrate their own, and others’ individuality.
In the Middle School, we focus on a love of learning, understanding our own behaviours and ensuring children have a strong sense of community here at King’s Oak Academy. We work hard to build strong relationships with our children and we value the partnerships that we have with our parents. We believe that, for our children to thrive at school, they need to feel happy and secure with teachers whom they trust and respect alongside their friends whose company they enjoy. This allows us to challenge our children and expect high standards of behaviour and academic effort from all of our children.
Throughout Middle School, we work on developing skills in oracy, debating and decision-making and we encourage our children to take responsibility for themselves and their decisions ensuring that they have a positive influence on each other. Our Year 5 and 6 children have their own class teachers who lead joy-filled learning across the curriculum for the majority of the week. The Year 5 and 6 Curriculum is enriched with access to specialist classrooms and subject experts for PE and Music in Years 5 and 6. In Year 6, our children also have access to specialist classrooms and subject experts in Art. The Year 7 and 8 Curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced to ensure learners have sufficient subject knowledge and understanding over time to tackle learning in the Upper School.
